Where Aught comes from the technology is far superior to ours, the electronics especially. An unusual thing about their 'dimension' or planet is that there is no known substance of metal so the electronics run though a more flexible material that conducts electricity about 4 times more effectively as any matter on our planet. This material can be moulded quite easily and is used in many 'body enhancements' the most common being an electric heart. When a baby is born (which is very rarely) of Aught's specie then the baby is immediately taken away to have an operation preformed on it, unless the baby is sick or born with problems, in that case then they receive the treatment as soon as possible. The treatment includes the whole chest being opened up and the heart being coated in the electronic material. The coating has a unique identity code programmed into it and a tracking system. The operation is standard to the Palo even though it would seem horrific to anyone on earth, it only takes him or her a few hours to complete if the operation runs smoothly.
The Palo have found that your soul or 'ghost' as it is called there, is not a part of your brain but in your heart. The coating keeps the soul intact and 'part of' the body no matter what the distance is between the two, it also contains tracking so that other Palo after coming upon the seemingly lifeless body of another Palo can check the souls location. The electric heart also allows the Palo to have a limitless life, in other words, they can't die unless their electric heart is totally destroyed.
The Palos planet is what's known as a gateway planet, it is littered with portholes to other locations throughout the planet, universe and even some reach further, to other dimensions for example. Due to some problems with portholes with dangerous creatures on the location planet, a lot of portholes were quarantined.
When a Palo trips into a porthole their body falls back onto their planet, they looks lifeless but other Palo are used to this as they are a travelling specie and they know that they can't die. Their whole body is transported if the destination is close e.g. on their own planet (Histra) or it's moons.
The actual soul of the Palo is very much alive, the ghost as it is called is the part of the Palo that travels through the dimensions, they look the same as the Palo they come from except for a few details that have been added by the Palo themselves. They also lack genitals and nipples, as 'ghosts' have no need to wear clothes the program for their 'parts' has been removed though you could easily program that back into a Palo and some do.
The electric heart is the key to allowing safe travel through worlds, before the technology was invented, Palos often died of heart attacks during porthole travel.
Something that is important to Palos is intelligence, if by the age of 4 years on their planet (approx 200,000 years on earth) they don't have a specified IQ then they are issued with an artificial intelligence chip in the back of their heads. The intelligence chip isn't as smart as real intelligence but it at least gives everyone about the same understanding of their own technology, which is vital to them as it is incorporated into their own bodies. Palos are quite into body modification, Aught especially, many are heavily pierced or tattooed even though their bodies have natural patterns. The wings on their backs are usually unusable as they seem to be evolving out as the Palos intelligence increases, some Palos have wings that are useable and some even get operations to make them useable just for exploration of gas only planets where there is no where to land.
When a single Palo reaches a certain IQ their fourth finger is removed to show they are of the higher intelligence Palos around. You have to be pretty clever to have your fourth finger removed.
Right now onto Aught. He has visited earth a few times before, once when he was very young, that time there were still dinosaurs about so the place was immediately quarantined. A few years later it was fine for public access again, but no one used it. The next time he visits earth humans had evolved, it was about the Victorian era, a few months later he returned again and found an electronic dog 'Aibo' (obviously a long time had passed on earth due to the time difference). He took it with him and gave it an intelligence chip used to make Palos smarter; he also modified its electronic voice box. In doing so he created a living entity in a child's toy.
Aught is very clever for his age; at 11 he had his little finger removed and has never needed any artificial intelligence chips inserted into him. Although he was intent on improving the current chips to make himself vastly clever and hopefully help other Palos.
When he visited earth in the Victorian age he found chunks of metal, as Palos are not familiar with metals he found them fascinating and took them with him, now they adorn his elbows and tips of his wings.
Unbeknown to Aught at the time was that he had a bad heart, the coating hadn't been applied properly and so when he visited other planets his ghost was not properly visible, if you view it directly it disappears but if you don't directly focus on it then it becomes clearly visible. This can be quite confusing when conversing with him as you can't make eye contact.
Aught's right eye is completely white and sunken due to an accident when he was a child, in reality Palos wear a lot of electronics on their body, Aught wears an electronic plate over it to allow vision. But as ghosts don't wear clothes then that isn't visible.
Due to Aught's faulty system when he travelled to earth for the fourth time with Aibo (Aibo is not technically alive so it can travel with him) his system shut down. He got stuck on earth in Apollyon's basement, he is currently trying to fix his own circuits so he can return home. He has befriended Apollyon, Asphyxia and the rest of the crew, and also realises if he does ever return home and back into his body then he will never see them again due to the shocking difference in the timeline. If he returned they would have died almost instantly of old age.
He is only 14 and as the Aught on earth is his ghost then he can't wear clothes.
Freinds
Apollyon :
Aught has lived in Apollyons basement for quite some time. Apollyon tries hard to understand him but finds him confusing, she wants to get to know him better so that she can help. Aught sometimes gets frustrated with Apollyon but likes her all the same, he knows she's trying to find ways in which they can do things together.
Asphyxia :
Aught and Asphyxia rarely talk, Phix finds him so fermiliar it scares him. Asphyxia likes to make eye contact with people so the whole 'not being able to view him directly' really frustrates him. Aught seems to like being around Phix, he usually sits where Phix can't see him and because of this proabably knows more about Asphyxias emotions and secrets than anyone else.
ScrapMetal :
ScrapMetal is a little bit afraid of Aught, the fact she can't touch him confuses her no end. As she gets older she cares for him a lot more, she knows that he is always there to talk to her and he always seems to know what she's thinking.
FingerPrint :
FingerPrint has never met Aught.
Vesper :
Aught never saw Vesper directly but when he visited his world he saw him thinking that he was one of the strange candy cane trees. He unintentionaly let Vesper through a gateway. Vesper likes Aught because he set him into worlds full of tasty treats.
Methane :
Methane always helps Aught out with whatever he needs, he often acts as Aughts hands as Aught passes through things and he can pick them up. He is grateful towards Aughts species and the only Palo he is in contact with is Aught so he always shows the utmost gratitude to Aught.
Tragedy :
Tragedy likes that Aught looks after ScrapMetal a lot, he can see they have a bond forming.
Anti-Clockwork :
She doesn't know that he even exists, even though she sees him at the clubs.
Shove :
Shove dosn't really know Aught too well, he's all a little too confusing for him. He's not used to everyone not being normal, it's hard enough someone being undead, another an alien and a huge dragon popping in and out of the basement, then there's someone he can barely see! He's still settling in.
